A blueprint for aging has the power to add years to your life, one expert says

Aging expert Debra Whitman’s new book, “The Second Fifty,” delves into how to chart a healthier and happier second half of life.

On the cusp of her 50th birthday, aging expert Debra Whitman had questions.
Searching her bookshelf, she couldnā€™t find the equivalent of ā€œWhat to Expect When Youā€™re Expectingā€ for adults wanting to age healthily and happily.

ā€œThere was really nothing out there about this second half of life,ā€ said Whitman, 54, who is AARPā€™s executive vice president and chief public policy officer and former staff director for the US Senate Special Committee on Aging.

Never mind that many Americans are living longer ā€” the US population aged 100 and over will quadruple in theĀ next 30 years, rising from approximately 101,000 in 2024 to around 422,000 by 2054, according to the Pew Research Center
